Romanesque Church of Santa María de Tomiño. Province of Pontevedra. Part 2 (Interior).

Now we will see the inside of the church.

Click Here for Part 1, the exterior.

We have entered the church.

This is the spiral staircase that goes up to the choir.

View from the choir. Some corbels were removed from the outside in 1809 when the current tower was built. They were used for support the beams of the wooden roof. We see in the north and south walls in each of them two of the three exterior arrow slits "converted into" Romanesque windows in the interior with round arches, columns and capitals with plant motifs, although somewhat damaged (the capitals).

This is the third Romanesque window of the south wall.

North wall of the church, it is seen to the right from the main entrance.

This is the south wall.

This is the stained glass of the window of the main façade seen from the choir.

We walk down the stairs from the choir.

General view from the triumphal arch.

Baptismal Font.

We can see the triumphal round arch. There is a Romanesque window over the arch. We also see the barrel vault made of slate and the other round arch of the vault.

Capital on the left side in the triumphal arch. Leaves and plant motifs.

Capital on the right side in the triumphal arch. Three women, two of them hold up the other that is in the middle, there are also two figures of quadrupeds, one looks down.

Capital on the left side in the other arch of the vault with representation of interlaced snakes. We also see to the right a part of the original Romanesque window located on the north wall of the apse.

Capital on the right side in the other arch of the vault with representation of plant motifs.

The current window to the right was modified. It was originally of Romanesque style as the other two.

This is a statue of the Virgin.

Our visit to the church of Santa María de Tomiño has come to an end.
