Balieiros Beach in Ribeira, Province of A Coruña. Part 1.

We return to Ribeira a municipality of the Province of A Coruña located on the north bank of the Ría de Arousa. We will visit the spectacular beach of Balieiros.

It is located to the north of Cape Corrubedo, where is the lighthouse and in the Ría de Muros y Noia. It is on the open sea with strong currents that make swimming in it can be somewhat dangerous. It has a length of 1.5 kilometers that invite us to take pleasant walks because it is not a frequented beach.

Our previous visit to the lighthouse of Corrubedo can be seen Here.

We have visited the beach in two very different summer days, one bright and clear and the other with the weather somewhat unsettled, although nothing serious because a harsh winter storm here has to be worth seeing.

We have just access the beach for its most southern part, closer to the lighthouse (42.578341, -9.080983). We start walking across the sand.

The tide is now at its lowest point and the beach in this part is completely flat. These small lagoons like the one seen in the picture are formed. These rocks are covered by the sea most of the time.

As can be seen all this enormous space is occupied by the sea at high tide.

In winter the strength of the sea can reach the slope that is seen to the right of the picture. We are on the open sea.

We look back to the left towards the lighthouse.

The lighthouse of Corrubedo.

Now we continue our walk.

As we move forward along the beach every time we turn the lighthouse is emerging from the rocks and can already be seen in its entirety. Zoom.

At low tide the sea forms these ripples in the sand. We look at the shoreline which is about 150 meters from where we are.

We look to the right.

We look to the left.

Now we approach the shoreline.

This baby shark was about 40 cm. It was stranded because of the tide in this part of the beach the relief is very flat. When the tide starts to rise, the baby sharks have to fight against the current that pushes them to the sand and they are also disoriented and show fatigue.

This young shark was still alive and was back into the sea and we hope that it has survived and reach adulthood.

We have walked about 400 meters from the place where we have accessed to the beach (Here: 42.578364, -9.080986). These two rocks serve as our reference on our second visit to Balieiros beach.

Today is somewhat cloudy. We have returned to the place where we left off. Also today the tide is low. The rocks that are seen to the left are those of the previous picture.

From here we can see the lighthouse once again.

We walk down the beach some 300 metres further. Our steps.

From this same point we distinguish a fisherman.

We have left behind this part of the beach. Note to the left of the picture as far as the tide rises.

We can see in the distance the fisherman again.
