Baños de Molgas is at the center of the province of Ourense, 35 kilometers from its provincial capital, has just over than 2,000 inhabitants. The municipality is crossed by three rivers Tioira, Sor and above all the Arnoia.

The hot springs are the most important economic resource of Baños de Molgas, with the Spa Hotel built in the late nineteenth century, in 1873.

There are also other attractions: the surroundings of the Spa with the Roman Bridge and Park Ansuíña (which we will visit today), the pre-Romanesque ninth century church of Santa Eufemia de Ambia and the Sanctuary of la Virgen de los Milagros, among others.

Baños de Molgas Spa is a modern hotel establishment specialized in treatments based on thermal waters. There are three springs in the village: the fountain Quente (hot), which is inside the spa, the other called A Charca and  la Burga which is available to the public and it is located beside the Spa Hotel.

We will visit the Spa and its surroundings, la Burga and the Roman Bridge in the Part 1.

And the Park Ansuíña in the Part 2.

It is estimated that the Roman Bridge was built in the second century but was renovated in the fourteenth century.

It is believed that the Roman Mansio Salientibus was located in this area. It was one of the so-called “intermediate mansios” of the Via Nova Romana (Via XVIII).

The Via Nova Romana ran between Braga in Portugal and Astorga along 300 kilometres and passed by 11 “mansios”: Aquis Originis (Aquis Ogeresibus,), Aquis Querquennis, Geminas, Salientibus, Praesidium, Nemetobriga, Foro, Gemestario, Bergidum and Interamnium Flavium.
