Sobreiras do Faro, Pozas de Mougás and coast of Oia, south of Pontevedra.
We are in the municipality of Oia. It has about 3000 inhabitants and is situated to the south of the province of Pontevedra. We will visit the parish of Viladesuso. Sobreiras do Faro is located here.
This is a natural area of 9 hectares formed by cork oaks (Sobreiras in Galician language) that is unique in Galicia there are also oak and chestnut trees. We will also see in Viladesuso the parish church of San Miguel and the place called O Sobral.
A few kilometres away in the neighbouring parish of Mougás the Pozas de Mougás are situated which are natural pools that are formed in the river of its same name.
As we have mentioned before the division of municipalities into parishes remains in Galicia. They are civil parishes and are of ecclesiastical origin.
But before all that we will go for a walk along the coast of this part of Oia.

Our previous visit to Oia: Loureza in Oia, Province of Pontevedra. Pools (Pozas) and ducks in River Tamuxe.
Some views of the coast of Oia. The coastline of the municipality is straight. Here there is no ría (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rías_Baixas), here is open sea the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean.
We are in Viladesuso. In front of us, America.

Sobreiras do Faro.
The natural area that makes up the Sobreiras do Faro is private because their owners are the members of the Comunidad de Montes de Viladesuso (it is an association of owners of forest land). They have recovered this place to make it available to the public. In the summer of 2011 they finished the arduous cleaning and placement of signs along a hiking trail of 3 kilometres.
It is an area of a great interest and we can also visit Cano dos Mouros which is an elevation that preserves the remains of a fortified enclosure of a strategic nature from 2000 years ago.
This is the place where the hiking trail to the Sobreiras starts. It is on top of the mountain, next to Cano dos Mouros. We were unable to access Cano dos Mouros by the existing undergrowth.

This is the River Broi also called River of Viladesuso. The Sobreiras are next to the river. The riverbed dries up in the summer. With the rains there are spectacular fervenzas (waterfalls).

We go down beside the river through the Sobreiras.

The sun is behind us. We can see in the area cork oaks (Sobreiras in Galician language) and there are also oak and chestnut trees.

We are approaching the River Broi again.

We now approach the Parish Church of San Miguel de Viladesuso.
The parish of Viladesuso was created in 1796 to be separated from the neighboring parish of Mougás. Then the construction of the church began between 1797 and 1801, in the place that was a hermitage. After, repairs were made in 1833 and 1878. The statue of San Miguel in the facade was made in 1940.

Casas do Sobral. Typical rural buildings which have been restored for use as a hotel enjoy a privileged location next to the river and the forest where the Sobreiras are located.

Now we go to the Pozas de Mougás.
This is the church of Santa Uxía de Mougás. It was built in the late 17th century over a former Romanesque church.

They were here. To access the Pozas we have to leave the road and turn left and continue along a dirt track.
42.048896, -8.868906
This is the River Mougás also called Río da Fervenza. The river does not carry much water in the summertime. As in the case of the River Broi (see above) with the rains there are spectacular fervenzas (waterfalls).
42.053953, -8.862147
This is a recreational area with a picnic area beside the Pozas, about 300 meters.
42.058432, -8.861997
The Pozas are these natural pools formed in the riverbed of the River Peito (it figures as Regato das Pías in Google Maps) which will become the River Mougás, as mentioned above.
Why do rivers have two and even three names?
