The north tower collapsed because of a storm in 1795 and will not be rebuilt until 80 years later, in 1873. A clock and the bells were installed in the new north tower in 1896. One and others were taken from Hospital San Juan de Dios, which had been previously closed.

The fountain we see today was removed from its place around 1880. The original atrium and balustrade were replaced by a staircase. Mayor Filgueira Valverde promoted the restoration work in 1953-1954 returning the atrium to its original aspect with the fountain in its place again.

The statue of Teucro, founder of the city was placed over the arch of the fountain, in 1958.

The style of the temple combines late Galician Baroque and Neoclassical.

The facade is curved line. It has two bodies divided by cornices. The lower body has two pilasters on each side of the doorway and a semicircular arch on the lintel of the door.

There are in the second body statues in niches of the Virgen Peregrina in the centre, Santiago Apostle to the left and San Roque to the right. They are all dressed as pilgrims. They protected pilgrims going to Santiago through the Portuguese Way of Saint James.
