Ponte Caldelas is a land of rivers (mainly River Verdugo and River Oitavén), mountains and valleys (where the deciduous forest predominates). It is divided into 9 parishes: Anceu, Barbudo, Caritel, Forzáns, A Insua, Ponte Caldelas (the capital of the municipality), Taboadelo, Tourón y Xustáns. A rich religious and civil architectural heritage is combined with areas of outstanding natural beauty in all of them.

Here starts a walk that will take us along the river bank to the river beach of A Calzada.

We are at the bridge over the River Verdugo looking upstream. We can see to the left the path that we will walk parallel to the paved road that leads to the river beach. There are sections which can be covered by the path and others, most of them, next to the paved road, there are stretches of pavement and others with wooden walkways.

We are on the path beside the river. Behind the wall you see to the left of the picture is the paved road called Paseo Manuel Cordo Boullosa that leads to the river beach. The path that we see does not reach the river beach has intermittent sections so we leave it a few meters ahead and continue along the Paseo.

We continue along the path a few meters further.

Now we see the river from one of the balconies that there are beside the river. We have already left behind the path and continue along the Paseo.

The crystal clear waters allow us to see the bottom of the riverbed.

A few metres further we return to the path.

A Calzada has been in this year 2015 the first river beach awarded the Blue Flag (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Flag_beach). This is for the quality of its crystalline waters and be located in a riverbank forest with chestnut trees oaks and birches. It also has parking, playground, kiosk, lawn, sports area (volleyball, ping-pong), grills, tables and benches.

This is a swimming area for children.

Now we look downstream from this same point. There is a water canalization that flows parallel to the river.

We leave the river beach of A Calzada and return to the bridge over the River Verdugo.

Now we start the second part of the walk along the River Verdugo. This part is somewhat shorter stretches along about half a kilometer downstream to the place called O Balneario (the spa). There is a spring of mineral and medicinal waters.

From the bridge we see another bridge or wooden walkway which also crosses the river.
