Granja de Briz, a magical place in Marín. Ría de Pontevedra.






It is a property of almost 25,000 square meters of public ownership. It was a former farm owned by the Oseira Monastery (which is in the province of Ourense) that was acquired by D. Roberto Munaiz in 1838. His family built a house on the property called Villa Paula.

Later in 1942 the villa was built as a summer residence. It was acquired in 1999 by the Municipality of Marin and today is a center of activities and municipal offices. The name of the property is due to D. Marcelino Briz, married to one of the descendants of the Munaiz family.

This garden, built in the center of the town of Marín has a part dedicated to children's play area, also an auditorium, it is a beautiful park filled with a wide variety of fruit and native species trees.

An incentive to visit Granja de Briz has recently been added. We are talking about the carvings on tree trunks located in different parts of the park.

Marín is a municipality of about 26000 inhabitants. It is situated on the southern bank of The Ría de Pontevedra. There is a strong historical link with the sea, also nowadays its important fishing and commercial port around which the economic life of the town revolves, without forgetting the marina and the military port.





The ´Hórreo´: The ´hórreos´ are traditional architectural elements and are typical of Galicia (also of Asturias and León). They were built in stone and were used and are used to store grain.  They are isolated from ground to prevent rodent´s visits.

There are archaeological sites, Romanesque churches in Santomé de Piñeiro and Santa María do Campo, Lake Castiñeiras is located in a beautiful natural environment rich in fauna and flora, Finca de Briz which we visit today. These are among others some of the attractions you will find in Marín, without forgetting its lovely beaches along 8 kilometers of coastline.





Since the Escuela Naval Militar (Military Naval School) settled in Marín in 1943 many generations of naval officers have been educated here.





The division into parishes remains in Galicia. They are civil parishes and are of ecclesiastical origin. These are the parishes that belong to Marín: Santa Maria do Porto, San Xulian de Marín de ArribaSan Xurxo de Mogor, Nosa Señora do Carme de Seixo, Santa María do Campo, Santomé de Piñeiro and Santa María de Ardán.
